Technologies That Help Your Business Go Green
Earth Day, which takes place on April 22nd of every year, was founded by US Senator Gaylord Nelson in order to educate people on the environment and environmental health.
According to earthday.org, more than a billion people from nearly 190 countries participate in Earth Day.
While participation on an individual level can be the foundation of any movement, there is no reason why your small business can’t participate in Earth Day as well.
Here are a couple of easy ways your business can participate in Earth Day:
Turn off the lights
This seems obvious and simple because it is. Leaving lights on wastes electricity, and it wastes money for your business. You can take this technique to the next level by replacing your incandescent light bulbs with environmentally friendly compact fluorescent light bulbs. CFL bulbs use less energy than standard bulbs and offer an easy way to make your business greener.
Put the cloud to use
According to the EPA, paper waste still accounts for more than 40 percent of the waste we create. Technology like Google Drive has made it possible for people to access documents they save in the cloud from wherever they have an internet connection. Plus, it is incredibly easy to share information using cloud based storage. With tablets, smartphones, laptops and all of the other devices we now have at our fingertips, it’s now easier to cut back on the amount of paper waste your business generates.
Cars and trucks used for business represent another great opportunity for businesses to become more green. Many companies depend on fleet vehicles to provide their products and services to their customers. Managing a fleet of vehicles while taking environmental considerations into account can be a challenge and the cost of replacing an entire fleet with hybrid or electric vehicles would be enormous.
Luckily, there are other options for companies relying on a fleet to be environmentally friendly. GPS fleet management software can help companies reduce the amount of fuel they use and emissions they produce by helping them optimize routes for their vehicles. Additionally, fleet tracking can let you know when vehicles are idling. This helps businesses reduce idle time to save gas and cut down emissions.
Fleet tracking software is even available on the cloud now. This allows your company to be green in two ways at once. This cloud software allows you to access information about your fleet almost anywhere you have internet service.
Earth Day is something everyone can participate in, and it is something every business should take part in as well. Whether your company produces innovative green technology or creates an initiative to use less paper, Earth Day is something businesses should celebrate.
