Teaming Up for the NBA’s Green Week
Hey, sports fans! The green game is one that everyone can play, as the National Basketball Association is proving with its first-ever NBA Green Week. For the duration of the inaugural NBA Green Week, which will run from April 2nd through the 10th, the whole NBA family is teaming up to raise awareness and funding for environmental preservation and sustainable products.
The Green Week program will include green uniforms and socks (both in color and in being made in part or entirely from organic cotton), an online auction of Spalding basketballs made from 40-percent recycled materials, a footwear drive to collect gently worn athletic shoes at the NBA store in New York City, along with other initiatives to encourage fans to think green and take action to preserve the environment. And that’s just the beginning. NBA Green Week is part of a larger, ongoing initiative on the NBA’s part to become a greener, cleaner, more eco-friendly organization.
We at the Green Business Bureau would like to extend a well-deserved kudos to the NBA, which is partnering with the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) for this revolutionary initiative. Congratulations! By bringing the green message to the court and a nationwide audience, the NBA is making a strong statement that green has hit the mainstream and is here to stay. We can only hope that other sports organizations will take a page from the NBA’s groundbreaking new playbook and follow suit.
