What are 2-3 Actual examples of things you are doing to be green?

We are in the business of selling remanufactured inkjet and toner cartridges (which we also use).

On an office level we implemented a paper recycling program and have reduced our use of paper. We use eco-friendly office products and we also have a water cooler and travel and coffee mugs for our employees.

In our warehouse we use recycled shipping products such as boxes and shipping products. We also have skylights in our warehouse.

What have been some of your biggest challenges about going green?

Initially, one of our biggest challenges towards being green was the acceptance of our products on the market. There was a greater amount of people who associated remanufactured inkjet and toner cartridges as faulty, low quality products. However, once customers became aware of our quality and the positive effects our products have on the environment they were more apt to continue purchasing and using our remans.

Another big challenge we faced was when we first implemented a paper recycling program in the office and warehouse; at start it was difficult to break the habit of throwing paper in the trash can.

What have been 2-3 of your favorite GBB initiatives?

Though not a GBB initiative, we have really been enjoying the GBB Assessment. The assessment makes it easy to track the things we are doing and the things we can be doing to be green!

Our employees have also enjoyed the office travel mugs and coffee mugs we purchased in order to reduce the use of paper and Styrofoam cups.

Our paper recycling program has also been a favorite because we use the money received from the collected paper to buy sodas for our warehouse.

What positive results have you seen from going green?

The most positive result we’ve seen from going green is our business. We sell remanufactured ink and toner cartridges which help our environment in numerous ways. As the shift towards green is increasing and remanufactured ink and toners are becoming more widely accepted we have noticed an increase of sales as well as the maintenance of our existing customer base. It feels good to know we are providing a product with backed support to a new and quickly rising market.

We have also noticed a cost savings by purchasing recycled office products and recycled shipping products such as packing peanuts and boxes. By limiting the use of electricity and promoting the use of natural light we have experienced a decrease in utility costs.

Experience with the GBB

Though we have only been a GBB member for a short period of time, we are very pleased with the customer service and opportunities that come with a GBB membership. The GBB staff does a good job of keeping things personal with their members, as well as maintaining a relationship via follow-up phone calls and emails. The GBB’s website has a clean, easy to navigate interface. The GBB makes going green easy and simple, allowing us to implement eco-friendly practices quickly and efficiently so that we may direct our focus on other aspects of our business.

Customers want to buy from eco-friendly companies, so gain a competitive advantage by displaying the GBB seal.
Businesses that earn green business certification also save on energy and material costs.
